The Edwin A. Pape Lake, located three miles south of Concordia on Missouri Highway 23, provides not only the drinking water for the Concordia area, but also some excellent crappie, bluegill, channel catfish and bass fishing. Bald eagles can often be seen at the lake in winter.
The Lake, which covers 245 acres and has a storage capacity of 1.12 billion gallons, drains a watershed of 5,340 acres. The lake was built in 1967.
Local organizations have cleared areas of the lake for picnicking, and family outings, and shelter houses, restrooms and playground equipment have been erected. Shelters may be reserved by contacting Concordia City Hall at (660) 463-2228.
A special use permit is required for fishing. The lake also provides good waterfowl hunting during the fall. Contact Concordia City Hall at (660) 463-2228 for rules and information about duck hunting at the lake.
The Missouri Department of Conservation now manages the lake for fishing and has added improvements, such as a boat ramp and handicapped fishing jetty.
